  Children from every class took part in the National School Games Santa Dash on Friday 11th December.    The children really enjoyed being active outdoors despite the very heavy rain.   

  Children from Badger and Oak Class took part in the Norfolk School Games Try Golf competition.  Try Golf uses smaller clubs and larger balls to make golf accessible to children. A series of competitive games are used to introduce children to putting and driving in a fun and safe environment. The Oak and Badger Class children's scores for each of the games were totaled up and submitted to the Norfolk School Games organisers.  The results will be published here in the new year.   

  Children from Oak and Badger Class took part in the Norfolk School Games "virtual" cross country competition during December. The school field was carefully measured out to ensure the children covered the correct distance for their year group. Each child's times were recorded and were submitted to the Norfolk School Games organisers.  The results will appear here when available in the new year. Our nearest Athletics Club is Attleborough Athletics Academy. Mr House can arrange a free taster session for  children aged 6 and over..   

  Children from Oak and Badger Classes took part in the "virtual" Sports Hall Athletics competition for the Norfolk School Games during December. Sports Hall athletics consists of a number of events including: standing long /high jump, 5 strides/triple jump, speed bounce and some throwing events. These events have been developed to enable children to develop their athletics skills during the Winter months. The scores for all the children for all the events were totaled up and have been submitted to the Norfolk School Games organisers. The competition results will appear here when available in the new year. Our nearest Athletics club is the Attleborough Athletics Academy. Mr House can arrange free taster sessions for children 6 years and older.   

Fox Class has been working hard to prepare for the Norfolk School Games "virtual" Gymnastics Competition. Preparation was particularly challenging as we had to practice outside on the playground which was not ideal.   The whole class practiced a very challenging routine that had to include several mandatory balances and moves. The children demonstrated brilliant timing and precision as well as a great deal of determination. For the final performances we used the village hall. All the teams were filmed and two teams of six were selected to be forwarded to the School Games Organisers for judging. The results will be published here as soon as they are available.    

At Spooner Row we offer a wide range of after school sports clubs. These provide opportunites for children to try new sports and are also a stepping stone to enable them to join local sports clubs and take part in school games competitions. The following after school clubs are offered: Monday - Athletics incorporating speed and agility.  The SAQ continuum is used to help children improve coordination, speed and agility. The focus is on improving the basic body movements for sport. Children also practice jumping and throwing together with the sports hall athletics events. The sessions are run by Mr House who is a qualified athletics coach and also coaches at Attleborough Athletics Academy. Tuesday - Gymnastics - Key Stage 1 Children are taught the basics of gymnastics covering balancing, travelling and jumping. The "Special Move"  Nine children from Spooner Row took part in the South Norfolk Tag Rugby tournament on Tuesday 10th March. Getting some last minute practice before the first game The first game was against Wreningham 1. Spooner Row started very strongly with a 7 - 0 victory. Next Spooner won against Hempnall 4 - 0 and  Elliingham 8-1 Next came the only loss of the day 2 - 3 against eventual runners up Trowse. Followed by a 7 - 2 win against our friends from Kenninghall. The final pool game was a 9 -1 win against Alburgh 2 Spooner Row finished runners up in the group and then played Alpington in the 3rd 4th play off. Alpington started very strongly and went 2 - 0 up. The Spooner Row children showed great determination and resilience to eventually win the game 6-4   The team played brilliantly throughout the day. The South Norfolk SSP in association with Badminton England delivered a badminton festival aimed at giving young children the opportunity to try the sport. Sports leaders from Long Stratton High School supported a series of individual activities aimed at developing the skills required for badminton. Each school team tried each of the activities. Children from Fox Class took part in the morning Badger Class children took part in the afternoon Spooner Row School has now purchased the equipment to deliver badminton sessions in PE and Mrs Baker has received badminton coach training. Thanks to Badminton England, Laura Goodsween (South Norfolk's School Sports Coordinator) and the school sports leaders from Long Stratton High for making it such a fun event. Two children from Spooner Row qualified to represent South Norfolk at the Norfolk School Games Cross Country finals on Wednesday 4th March. The competition was for children who had qualified from their cluster and regional competitions. Both the Spooner Row children improved on their results from last year. 25th Place - 1 place higher than last year 7th Place - 4 places higher than last year Congratulations to both children and thanks to Mrs Baker and Mrs Sparkes for their excellent weekly training sessions.

Children from Fox and Badger classes have been taking part in Tae Kwon Do training with coaches Lisa and Chris from NMAC Great Britain. In the first session children were learning front stance. The sessions will continue every Wednesday until the Easter Holidays. In the Summer term an after school Tae Kwon Do club will be running on Monday evenings NMAC offer a wide range of training days and dates should your child wish to continue with Tae Kwon Do. The Spooner contingent of the Wymondham Cluster Team showing off their winners medals form the Cluster Gala. On Tuesday 25th January, 6 children from Spooner Row represented the Wymondham Cluster at the South Norfolk swimming gala. The 6 Spooner Row children previously qualified from the Wymondham Cluster gala. One of Spooner Row's year four girls won her race with a time that was also faster than the year 4 boys. In a very close competition, Wymondham Cluster finished in third place behind Hobart and winners Framingham Earl. Thanks to Ian Constance for managing the Wymondham Cluster team

On 7th February 2020, 25 children from Key Stage 2 took part in the Wymondham Cluster Swimming Gala. The children had a great day and swam really well. Six Spooner Row children qualified to represent the cluster at the South Norfolk Gala which will take place on 26th February.

On Friday 10th January two teams from Fox Class took part in the South Norfolk Gymnastics competition at the Norfolk Academy of Gymnastics (TNAG). In the morning the children were given guidance on their floor routine and vaults by the excellent coaches from TNAG. They were also coached on using TNAG's professional gymnastics equipment. The children had a lot of fun improving their technique. The competition starting after lunch with the vault event. The children were required to squat onto a bench, cross the bench on the balls on their feet (without wobbling) and perform a straight jump dismount. The children were very precise in their movements and showed great body control. The final event was the floor routine. Both Spooner Row teams delivered their best without any instruction.
