Norfolk Cross Country Finals



Two children from Spooner Row qualified to represent South Norfolk at the Norfolk School Games Cross Country finals on Wednesday 4th March.

The competition was for children who had qualified from their cluster and regional competitions.

Both the Spooner Row children improved on their results from last year.

25th Place - 1 place higher than last year

7th Place - 4 places higher than last year


Congratulations to both children and thanks to Mrs Baker and Mrs Sparkes for their excellent weekly training sessions.

Eastern Region KS1 Gymnastics Finals

On Tuesday 16th July the Key Stage 1 gymnastics squad travelled all the way to Huntingdon for the Easton Region schools competition. The Spooner row squad qualified by winning the South Norfolk and Norfolk competitions. This was an incredible achievement as there are approximately 300 junior and infant schools in Norfolk and several thousand Key Stage 1 children eligible to take part. The competition was held at the world renowned gymnasium that is the home of multiple olympic medal winners Louis Smith and Max Whitlock, For the first stage of the competition  the children perform a squat on vault onto a bench. They then walked on their toes to the end of the bench and performed a straight jump onto a mat. As you can see from the photos the children showed great poise and precision. After School Sports Clubs

At Spooner Row we offer a wide range of after school sports clubs. These provide opportunites for children to try new sports and are also a stepping stone to enable them to join local sports clubs and take part in school games competitions. The following after school clubs are offered: Monday - Athletics incorporating speed and agility.  The SAQ continuum is used to help children improve coordination, speed and agility. The focus is on improving the basic body movements for sport. Children also practice jumping and throwing together with the sports hall athletics events. The sessions are run by Mr House who is a qualified athletics coach and also coaches at Attleborough Athletics Academy. Tuesday - Gymnastics - Key Stage 1 Children are taught the basics of gymnastics covering balancing, travelling and jumping. South Norfolk Tag Rugby Tournament

The "Special Move"  Nine children from Spooner Row took part in the South Norfolk Tag Rugby tournament on Tuesday 10th March. Getting some last minute practice before the first game The first game was against Wreningham 1. Spooner Row started very strongly with a 7 - 0 victory. Next Spooner won against Hempnall 4 - 0 and  Elliingham 8-1 Next came the only loss of the day 2 - 3 against eventual runners up Trowse. Followed by a 7 - 2 win against our friends from Kenninghall. The final pool game was a 9 -1 win against Alburgh 2 Spooner Row finished runners up in the group and then played Alpington in the 3rd 4th play off. Alpington started very strongly and went 2 - 0 up.
