South Norfolk Girls Football

On Tuesday 15th October Spooner Row took two teams to the South Norfolk Girl's Football Competition at Goals in Norwich. There were two separate competitions, one for years 3/4 and one for years 5/6.

There were 11 schools in the year 3/4 competition. The girls from Badger class started the tournament with a promising three nil win against Stoke Holy Cross team 2.

After such a promising start the Badgers struggled to find the net but put in a very strong defensive performance in thier games against Hempnall and Trowse which both finished nil nil.

As you can see from the photos, the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves and made the most of any breaks in play.

Next came two defeats against a very strong Harleston team and the eventual winners Robert Kett.

This meant that Spooner Row finished fourth in the group.

"What's that yellow thing?"

The final game was a play off game with Newton Flotman to see which team would finish 7th and 8th in the tourament. The Badger team picked the right moment to hit some form and finished with a brilliant 3 nil win to secure 7th place.

Oak Class kicked off the tournament with a strong defensive performance and two cracking goals to beat Loddon 2-1.

They then lost a close game against Poringland 2-1.

The next game was a very tight clash with Hempnall. The Oak girls were eventual 1-0 winners.

The Spooner Row team were growing in confidence with every game which was reflected in two very good wins against Carelton Rode and Hempnall. Both games finished 4-0 to Spooner Row.

The final group game was a tight one against Ellingham which eventally finished as a 2-1 loss.

The team's great performance meant they finished in 3rd place in their group and would face a play off game against Newton Flotman to decide the 5th and 6th places.

The Oak Class girls put in a brilliant performance to win the game 2-0 and secure 5th place overall.

Massive thanks to parent helpers Mrs Wright and Mrs Scott who gave up their day. Without them we wouldn't have been able to attend. Thanks also to the numerous parents who came along to cheer the girls on throughout the day.

The two tournaments went very smoothly thanks to the excellent planning of South Norfolk School Games Coordinator Laura Goodswen and the young sports leaders from Easton College.

Any girls wishing to play more football can do so on Thursdays after school at Spooner Row. Wymondham football club also has an excellent girl's section.
