After School Sports Clubs

At Spooner Row we offer a wide range of after school sports clubs. These provide opportunites for children to try new sports and are also a stepping stone to enable them to join local sports clubs and take part in school games competitions. The following after school clubs are offered: Monday - Athletics incorporating speed and agility.  The SAQ continuum is used to help children improve coordination, speed and agility. The focus is on improving the basic body movements for sport. Children also practice jumping and throwing together with the sports hall athletics events. The sessions are run by Mr House who is a qualified athletics coach and also coaches at Attleborough Athletics Academy. Tuesday - Gymnastics - Key Stage 1 Children are taught the basics of gymnastics covering balancing, travelling and jumping. Eastern Region KS1 Gymnastics Finals

On Tuesday 16th July the Key Stage 1 gymnastics squad travelled all the way to Huntingdon for the Easton Region schools competition. The Spooner row squad qualified by winning the South Norfolk and Norfolk competitions. This was an incredible achievement as there are approximately 300 junior and infant schools in Norfolk and several thousand Key Stage 1 children eligible to take part. The competition was held at the world renowned gymnasium that is the home of multiple olympic medal winners Louis Smith and Max Whitlock, For the first stage of the competition  the children perform a squat on vault onto a bench. They then walked on their toes to the end of the bench and performed a straight jump onto a mat. As you can see from the photos the children showed great poise and precision. Cluster Quad Athletics Years 3,4 & 5

18 children from years 3,4 & 5 took part in the Wymondham Cluster Quad Athletics competition on Monday 20th May 2019. The competition was held at Wymondham High School. The competition included four events: Howler throw.  Standing long jump. Sprint and 400/600m races There were also relay sprints. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the morning. The results will be published when available. Thanks to Ian Constance for organising the event and to the Wymondham High School Sports Leaders for their support. Any children wishing to try athletics can do so at Attleborough Athletics Academy. Training sessions are currently held at Gaymers Meadow Attleborough on Saturdays at 09:00 and Mondays at 19:00.
